The Do-It-Yourself Photographer
By Maria Esposito

Every couple wants great shots of their wedding day so they can show them to their kids and grandkids, but the price of a wedding photographer can be prohibitive for some brides and grooms. There are alternatives to hiring an actual photographer. Of course, what immediately come to mind are the disposable cameras you get at the local drug store. They are easy to operate, but the quality of the photographs can be unpredictable.

There is another way to go. YouShoot LLC, www.youshoot.com, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts is the first national company to rent high-resolution digital cameras for weddings. These cameras make an excellent alternative to the disposable ones because they cost far less per picture to use, and the quality is decidedly better. The company also hosts all photos on their website after the event, making it easy for attendees to view and print the shots they like.

A couple can reserve digital cameras for their event on the company's web site. There is also a toll free number and a snail mail address, if you prefer. To ensure availability, you need to reserve as soon as possible. You can actually check the availability of the type of package you want as well as the number of cameras you need before you place your order. YouShoot ships or delivers the cameras at least one day prior to your event.

During the event, guests take pictures with easy-to-master digital cameras. The high quality cameras can take over 200 pictures and the premium cameras can take over 150. Afterwards, the couple simply returns the cameras in a prepaid mailing case and YouShoot posts the pictures online for three months for guests to view, share, download, and print. YouShoot provides cards that explain how to access the pictures, which can be distributed to guests at the event.

The company offers all-inclusive packages starting at $249 that include digital camera rental, all shipping costs, a personal website with full-size pictures, and damage insurance for the cameras, making it an ideal photography alternative for events with a smaller budget. Prints are available online for the market rates of $0.29 per 4x6 and $3.99 per 8x10.

YouShoot prides itself on making your event photography as easy as possible. For this reason they offer additional services such as slideshow DVDs featuring all of your pictures and movies, additional DVDs/CDs for family members and extended web hosting.
